Product Features & Attributes
This Zahn viscometer (immersion cup, Zahn cup) is used to test the viscosity of Newtonian or near-Newtonian liquids. It is a common tool for rapid viscosity testing in production lines and laboratories of paints, inks, coatings, adhesives and other industries.
Working Principle: Immerse the cup in the test liquid, lift vertically and quickly. Measure the time (seconds) for the liquid to completely flow out through the precision orifice. Longer flow time indicates higher viscosity. Convert flow time to kinematic viscosity (cst) using the formula corresponding to the cup number.
Five Orifice Sizes Available:
Cup No. | Orifice | Measuring Range | Flow Time |
|---|---|---|---|
#1 | 1.93mm | 5~60 cst | 35~80s |
#2 | 2.69mm | 20~250 cst | 20~80s |
#3 | 3.86mm | 100~800 cst | 20~80s |
#4 | 4.39mm | 200~1200 cst | 20~80s |
#5 | 5.41mm | 400~1800 cst | 20~80s |
Structural Features:
Cup material: Stainless steel, corrosion-resistant and durable
Cup volume: 44ml
Precision orifice: Ensures stable flow
Lightweight: Only 0.14kg for flexible operation
Operation Steps:
Clean cup before use, ensure orifice is clear
Immerse cup in test liquid to reach thermal equilibrium
Lift vertically and quickly (start stopwatch simultaneously)
Stop timing when flow breaks
Record flow time, convert to viscosity by formula
Applications:
Paint manufacturing: Paint, latex viscosity control
Ink manufacturing: Printing ink viscosity testing
Adhesive manufacturing: Glue flow evaluation
Quality inspection: Incoming and finished product viscosity testing
R&D laboratories: Formulation development and optimization
Precautions:
Clean cup before and after use to avoid residue affecting accuracy
Lift action must be fast and smooth
Keep cup vertical during measurement
Requires high-precision stopwatch (user supplied)
Available in five orifice sizes from #1 to #5 to suit different viscosity ranges.
Mainly used in paint manufacturers, ink manufacturers, coating companies, adhesive manufacturers, quality inspection institutions, research universities, and more for rapid liquid viscosity testing.
