Product Features & Attributes
This sand cone density tester (sand replacement apparatus) is used for precise on-site determination of compacted soil density. It is specialized equipment for soil compaction testing in highway, paving and foundation engineering.
Working Principle: Uses the sand replacement method. A test hole is excavated at the test location. Standard sand of known density is poured into the hole. By measuring the mass and volume of sand poured, the hole volume is calculated. Combined with the mass and moisture content of the excavated soil, the in-situ dry density is obtained.
Structure:
Sand pouring cylinder (funnel) : Precision machined for controlled sand flow
Metal calibration container: For volume measurement of compacted soil
Metal tray with central hole: Ensures correct positioning of cylinder over test hole
Scraper tool: Helps level test area for accurate measurement
Heavy scale (optional) : Battery-powered field weighing, 5000g × 0.01g
Technical Features:
High-precision soil density testing for accurate in-situ dry density
Stainless steel construction, corrosion-resistant and durable for long-term use
Field-friendly, lightweight and portable for on-site compaction testing
Compatible with various soil types, suitable for cohesive and granular soils
Complete set of components, ready to use out of the box
Applications:
Road and paving construction – ensure proper soil compaction for highways and infrastructure
Foundation and earthwork engineering – determine in-situ dry density for bearing analysis
Geotechnical soil testing – ideal for civil engineering site investigations
Compaction control for embankments and trenches – verify compaction efficiency in backfill and foundation preparation
Available in different specifications: different container capacities (4L, 5L), different base plate opening sizes, with or without heavy scale to suit various on-site testing needs.
Mainly used in highway engineering testing institutions, construction companies, geotechnical survey units, research universities, and more for on-site soil compaction testing.
