Product Features & Attributes
This paint film adhesion tester uses the circle tracing method to determine the adhesion of paint films to substrates. It is common testing equipment for coating adhesion in the paint and coating industries.
Working Principle: The test panel is fixed on a movable table. As the table moves, the rotating needle cuts through the paint film in a circle, creating overlapping spiral tracks. The damage to the paint film is caused by both vertical pressure and the torsional force from the needle's rotation. Adhesion is evaluated by the integrity of the paint film within the spiral scratch area, rated by seven grades.
Structure:
Work table: Movable, stroke 80mm
Needle system: Rotating motion, drawing diameter 0~10.5mm adjustable
Weight system: 100~1000g adjustable, controls needle pressure
Drive system: Motor driven, speed 80r/min
Lifting device: Controls needle contact and release
Technical Features:
Circle method adhesion testing
Adjustable drawing diameter 0~10.5mm
Adjustable weight 100~1000g
Drawing pitch 1.5mm
Table stroke 80mm for standard scratch length
Manual operation, simple and reliable
Technical Parameters:
Motor speed: 80r/min
Overall dimension: 420×170×270mm
Operation Steps:
Check needle sharpness (replace if dull)
Adjust rotation radius to standard value (5.25mm)
Secure test panel on table, lower needle to contact film
Rotate handle clockwise evenly (80~100r/min)
Scratch length standard 7.5±0.5cm
Remove panel, clean debris from scratches
Examine with 4x magnifier and rate adhesion
Grading Method:
Examine the upper side of the scratch track. Mark seven positions (1-7) corresponding to seven grades. Check film integrity at each position. If >70% of the film remains intact at a position, it is considered intact.
Grade | Description |
|---|---|
1 | Position 1 intact - best adhesion |
2 | Position 1 damaged, position 2 intact |
7 | Worst adhesion |
Precautions:
Scratch should just penetrate the film; add weight if not reaching substrate
Grading can start from 7 (inner) or 1 (outer)
Primer adhesion should reach Grade 1; topcoat adhesion around Grade 2
Maintenance:
Apply rust preventive oil daily
Wipe oil, dust, and fingerprints
Annual inspection
Available in different specifications: different weight configurations (100-1000g, 200-2000g, etc.), different needle types, and different rotation radii to suit various coating types and testing standards.
Mainly used in paint manufacturers, coating contractors, automotive coating industry, furniture manufacturers, quality inspection institutions, research universities, and more for paint film adhesion testing.
