Product Features & Attributes
This IWATA cup (viscometer cup) is used for rapid viscosity determination of paints, inks, coatings and other liquids. It is a common tool for rapid viscosity testing in paint and ink industry production lines and laboratories. Features compact size, lightweight, easy operation and easy cleaning.
Working Principle: Immerse the cup in the test liquid to reach thermal equilibrium, then lift vertically and quickly. Measure the time (seconds) for the liquid to completely flow out through the precision orifice. Longer flow time indicates higher viscosity.
Structural Features:
Inner orifice diameter: φ3.81±0.05mm (precision machined)
Inner vertical height: 43±0.1mm
Operating temperature: 0~50℃±0.2℃
Operation Steps:
Clean with appropriate solvent before and after use
Immerse cup in liquid for 1~5 minutes to reach thermal equilibrium
Lift vertically and quickly (start timing when cup top leaves liquid surface)
Keep cup vertical, distance from liquid surface ≤150mm
Stop timing when flow breaks, record flow time (seconds)
Two measurements should differ by <5% of average
Precautions:
Clean thoroughly before and after use to avoid residue affecting accuracy
Lift action must be fast and smooth for repeatability
Keep cup vertical during measurement
Calibrate orifice regularly for wear
Available in different specifications: different orifice sizes (3.81mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, etc.) and different cup capacities to suit various viscosity ranges.
Mainly used in paint manufacturers, ink manufacturers, coating companies, quality inspection institutions, research universities, and more for rapid liquid viscosity testing.
