This apparatus is designed per international standards to quickly assess the particle shape of coarse aggregates by determining flaky and elongated particle content. Key features:
Two‑in‑one design: One unit performs both flakiness and elongation tests, saving cost and lab space
Standardized slots: Thickness gauge with slots for each size fraction (4.75/9.5/13.2/16/19/26.5/31.5/37.5/53mm); a particle that passes through is classified as flaky
Precision pin spacing: Length gauge with pins spaced at 1.8× the mean dimension of each fraction; a particle passing between pins is classified as elongated
Stainless steel construction: 304 stainless steel gauge plates and pins, rust‑treated for durability
Compatible with standard sieves: Used together with square‑hole sieves for complete particle shape analysis
Simple operation: Manual individual particle testing, no complex training required
Compliant with international standards: Meets ASTM D4791, BS 812‑105.1/105.2, EN 933‑4
Test procedure: Sieve the coarse aggregate sample into size fractions. Pass each fraction through the corresponding slot of the thickness gauge; particles that pass are flaky. The remaining particles are then passed through the pin spacing of the length gauge; those that pass are elongated. Weigh and calculate flakiness index and elongation index (as percentages).
